Let’s not sugarcoat it: unhealthy diets are linked to deadly diseases. It’s time for a food fight.
Unhealthy foods shouldn’t
be taken with a pinch of salt.
South Africa has alarming levels of non-communicable diseases like obesity, diabetes and hypertension. These conditions have their highest prevalence among our lowest earners, who have least access to healthcare.
Who’s responsible? Primarily, it’s “Big Food” – large food companies who manufacture highly processed foods. It’s also our government, which has made a meal of efficiently enacting legislation to promote healthier diets.
We’re campaigning for specific actions that would have profoundly positive outcomes. One, introducing health warnings on food packaging. And two, increasing the sugar tax to 20%.
You can help. By reading and sharing the material on this site, by making conscious food choices, and by getting involved.
No campaign, no gain.
Food justice won’t happen on its own. So we advocate for healthy foods through various multi-media campaigns, which aim to raise public awareness, challenge the food industry and influence the government.
Join the fight for food justice and promote a healthier food industry. There are various ways you can do this – and doing something is better than doing nothing. Any and every action helps.
